It would be a great thing if some of the subscribers could each
send Rod a short message, I can print it and take it to him in
hospital…
…or not?

Getting *Old*

Friday, January 31st, 2003

You’re right, Courtney. One time I was 17, too. That’s (getting old) why
I celebrated all the month of May this year when I marked 60 years!!! I
was/am amazed. I knew I’d die and picked the ripe old age of 35 when I’d
probably be gone. Who’d EVER believe I’d hit 60!! Do I feel *old.* NO WAY. I
hurt in many places, I’m tired, the ringing won’t go away, but I look at age
as just adding on another day - one at a time. One day you wake up and even
now I’m 3.5 months PAST 60!!!!!!!!!! Tomorrow’s another day. Then there’s
another, and another. It amounts to adding on more eperiences; they call
them birthdays, but you are still the same person with the same brain and
accumulated knowledge. Someday I won’t have another 24 hours, but while I’m
still in my (questionable) right mind, I’m going to take advantage of my
faculties and accomplish what I can.

I’m sure this is in some kind of movie or something, but when I come home
and Hubby says, “Who is it?” I say, “Just us Chick.”

Complications

Thursday, January 30th, 2003

As far as complications go:
After 49 years of Type I (I’m 60) I have 25% function of kidneys; neuropathy
of the feet and legs (take Dilantin since 1982 for circulation NOT
seizures); 6 eye surgeries (2 diabetic catarracts - 1 vitrectomy - 2 ptosis
repairs - 1 laser); hypothyroidism treated since 1978; depression treated
since 1989 (easier to have with an organic problem); extreme hair thinning
*added* for 5 years; broken fingernails with what a DermatOLOGIST (one of my
11 ologists) said it was psoriasis of the nails; toenail fungus - left great
nail removed about 15 years ago; hypertension treated since 1978; constant
high-pitched ringing in the ears.
NO, I did not take care of myself. Friends say, “YES you did! I don’t know
anyone who has taken care of themselves more than you.” But, like others
*knowing* someone else is *loved,* I know I did not. Mom feeding and
overfeeding me as a kid, home BGs not invented yet - have done them for 17
years now, one shot of 2 kinds of insulin a day (that’s all *they* knew),

Hello, Johnna!
Thank you for your offer to answer questions! Last year and preschool were
so much easier! I may take you up on you it sometime, if it doesn’t get
worked out pretty soon!
I know this is early to think about, but did you have problems once he was
promoted from the elementary school? Just wondered.

Hi, Kim! We have had conferences with the teacher, cafeteria, nurse (who is
only there allegedly 3 times a week, so far, it’s only been once), and the
principal. Last year, in kindergarten, my son and I wrote a book about what
all he has to do and why. He drew the pictures and it was really an ice
breaker for his class. He even read it to some other grades. This year, he
again read his book and most of the kids already knew, but they had more
questions for him. It worked out pretty well.

Poor Baby

Isn’t it something! From what I figure, Marius is the only male on this list
(who is involved) and he’s the only one crying. :-“`( LOL

Yes, Jan, you are so right. When my brother died, his death certificate
said “congestive heart failure.” It made me so mad to think that every
problem he had, including his heart was do to the diabetes.

For Marius

Monday, January 27th, 2003

Marius, I felt so bad about your whining that I pasted the poem that Jan
sent, for you to read. Of course, you won’t be able to see the pretty
pictures and the music that goes along…..Oh well, you can’t have everything.
