ReWelcome

Hello, everyone! I recognize some of the names from the archives I checked
out, but not all, so I am excited to be a part of the group. My son is 6
1/2 and was diagnosed April of 1998. We suspect he’s had diabetes much
longer than that. We are having trouble with the school now, a new
principal and he’s going all day. Preschool and kindergarten were pretty
good. So, we have a lot of adjustments and “suggestions” to deal with.
This has really been hard on us since school started and we’re switching
doctors at the same time.
I am looking forward to this group and all of your comments and experiences.
Hope you had a great holiday!
Dawn

Dawn, My daughter is 12 and has been diabetic almost 1 year. Our
school has been very good about Jessica. When we found out the school
nurse sent notice to all teachers and staff telling about her condition.
Also the PA dept of health helped us by letting the school know what
they are required to do. Diabetes is considered a handicap ( I hate
saying that, but in this case use it) and your school should not have
any problems and when you tell them what needs you have for your child
they need to DO IT. Consider talking with your Dept of Health in your
State, even if you just meet with them one on one. My husband and I
went and met with a woman there and we came out with a better feeling
overall. The woman even went to her classroom and explained to the
kids what Diabetes is all about. All this was FREE and she gave us some
free stuff inslding a monitor to leave at school. A movie about
Diabetes and a Nientendo game…..Good Luck Janet
