Complications
As far as complications go:
After 49 years of Type I (I’m 60) I have 25% function of kidneys; neuropathy
of the feet and legs (take Dilantin since 1982 for circulation NOT
seizures); 6 eye surgeries (2 diabetic catarracts - 1 vitrectomy - 2 ptosis
repairs - 1 laser); hypothyroidism treated since 1978; depression treated
since 1989 (easier to have with an organic problem); extreme hair thinning
*added* for 5 years; broken fingernails with what a DermatOLOGIST (one of my
11 ologists) said it was psoriasis of the nails; toenail fungus - left great
nail removed about 15 years ago; hypertension treated since 1978; constant
high-pitched ringing in the ears.
NO, I did not take care of myself. Friends say, “YES you did! I don’t know
anyone who has taken care of themselves more than you.” But, like others
*knowing* someone else is *loved,* I know I did not. Mom feeding and
overfeeding me as a kid, home BGs not invented yet - have done them for 17
years now, one shot of 2 kinds of insulin a day (that’s all *they* knew),
etc. The PUMP and my wonderful Endo literally changed my life 16 years ago.
When the neuropathy hit my feet so bad I could hardly walk and I took naps
to escape the pain, he put me on several meds until Dilantin and B6 worked.
Then he wanted to put me on the pump. I’m #7 in my area to have one. He and
one other dr. in the state capitol were the only 2 drs who used them back
then.

I didn’t even know that pumps had been around that long until I met you!

I am soooo glad you found your endo. You surely deserved a break!
