You find new ways to make me laugh with each email! Why oh why is your
sugar so high? You really need to get a new doctor and find the right combo

control you sugar than it is doing.

Gang, I think we’re going to have to play Endo for this too-sweet person.
That BG translates to around 400!!!!!!! I’ll reservedly accept the BP. If he
could stay there then it would come down a bit sometimes would be good. I
think the lowest of seen his BG was still over 200!
When he has a major (not another minor) heart attack he’ll wish he’d
listened to us. That BG could be brought down with insulin. I’m going to
post him privately with a suggestion. But he isn’t going to around much
longer to harrass us (err, I mean for US to harrass HIM) if this keeps up.
Sounds like it’s acceptable and comfortable for him!
Signed,
dr. Jan (that’s small d ’cause I don’t have my degree)
Maybe you can say something to make him listen, Jan. He does seem to just
accept these high numbers! I get upset when I am 130’s, how can he take 400
so lightly?????
Christine

Is Karen, the one who is on the Dr. Atkins diet and *suffered* when her BG
was 125, still on this list? If so, how are you doing?
The reason I ask is when I first got on this list she was uncomfortable
at that level. I gave the analogy of living in Alaska (high BG) and loving
it, moving to Florida (*normal* BG) and hating it. After a person lives in
Florida a couple of years (not that long for normal BGs) they love it.
Marius is living in *Alaska* and is used to it. For a Type II this is one of
the reasons it is called the Sneaky Disease. They think they’re all right
until a major complication sets in = heart attack, sore unhealed and
amputation, stroke, blindness, etc.
The difference with Marius is that he is DIAGNOSED and still living at
the high level. We need to pick him up, lock, stock, AND barrell and move
him to where his family is. They NEED him. Merredy needs him. He doesn’t
realize the stories she’s going to tell about her father some day that he
didn’t care enough about her to take care of himself so she could have him.
Maybe he has a deep need for all our attention and is just pulling our
legs and is really well-controlled. Let’s hope so. How can we prove it????
dr. Jan
July 21st, 2003 at 2:58 pm
Jan,
Since we talked in Indy, I have been searching the web for clear, concise
information (with actual target bg numbers) to send to Marius. I am very
concerned also about how high his numbers seem to run. What *really* concerns
me is the fact that his doctor *is not* concerned.
I have found a good bit of information that states at what A1c level damage
starts, but that would not help Marius much since he does not have an A1c number
to go by. I do have a formula that can be used to figure an *approximate* A1c
from an average bg number. Here it is:
(bg [mg/dl] +60) / 30 = approx. A1c
example:
21 mm/l x 18 = 378 (378 + 60) / 30 = 14.6 A1c
Of course this example uses just one number. It would be best to take an
average of bgs to use, since the A1c is an average number. But you can see from
the example an A1c of 14.6 is far from being controlled. A recent article
presented at an AADE meeting states that retinopathy *begins* at 6.2 A1c. There
are so many other complications for which he is at risk. It really scares me.

I really appreciate your concern, the truth is that I simply CANNOT
afford to see a doctor as often as I should, as my medical aid is
depleted. I have applied for membership on another scheme where
less money is being stolen from members.
This year over R4million ($600,000) has been stolen from our
medical aid.

Happy New Year, Gang at ONEList,
I’m still sick. I loved holding that little baby, but I don’t know if it was
worth it — catching the sickness she has. It has now settled in my lungs
and I cough and cough and cough. Have eaten very little. Watching BGs
carefully. I keep apologizing to Mr. Jan for being sick while he’s home. But
then it’s nice to have him get me things. I feel like about an hour ago
*something* broke in me and I might be getting better. I get my EPO shot
Monday so I’ll have them listen to my lungs then. I keep seeing these
Procrit (EPO) commercials on TV to make you feel better. I’ve been getting
them 4.5 years now and don’t know that I feel any more energetic.

We have some new members on this list, so I want to explain something here
first. Marius is our Type 2, very needy of our female attention South African
resident. He just got back from a 3-week vacation and is filling us in on our
vicarious trip. BV (before vacation) he would daily give us his SITREP
(situation report) since we have to diagnose, advise, cajole, persuade, holler,
YELL, and anything else that is needed at the time, about his BG, BP, and SOM
(state of mind).
Therefore,
Marius,
SITREP time!!!

New people,
If you multiply Marius’ BG x 18 (or, more simply - 20 - in South African and
Canadian values) you will see that he doesn’t want us to know he is about
250!!! He has this quirky idea that that is just fine. Our job is to peck
at him like mother hens.

My usual goal is to be below 7.0 which is around 140 mg/dl. When I was a
child it was acceptable to be in the 180s because low bgs can cause brain
damage in children, so docs accept higher bgs from kids. I’ve been told
that fasting BG should ideally be 80-120, after meals I’m not sure.
Iris
Iris,
I would think then it is different for Type II….My good range fasting is
the same 80-120, but 140 would be in the high range for me during the day.
Before bed up to 140 is still good. I would be exercising if I saw it there
though. I don’t want to see it above 110. I am paranoid I suppose.

This morning: 6:32 = 430; 7:29 = 359; 8:56 = 251; 9:56 = 222.
It IS coming down - took a shot with that 430 and changed my infusion site
(did yesterday too so that means that one was wasted). I don’t want it to
come down too fast or I’ll crash later. I’m keeping a careful track on it.
Good thing I ordered Ketostix yesterday. They are in today so will have to
go pick them up. I like the individually-wrapped kind so I can carry some in
my purse without extra bulk.
The sun is shining outside. 8^)
hi Jan

Newbies,
A SITREP is *usually* Marius’ Situation Report. He gives us this high BG
number, but in Canadian/South African terms. We multiply by 18 (or simply x
20) to figure it out. He also gives us his
BP and SOM - state of mind.
OK, Marius, let’s have it.

September 12th, 2006 at 1:30 am
Marius,
I’m almost panicking for you. We haven’t heard when your last dr. visit for
your diabetes was/is. Something has to be done about 500 BGs. Your body
cannot tolerate this much longer. How do you *feel*? It just hit me, do you
use a control solution to see if your meter is accurate? You have high
humidity don’t you with all your rain? Maybe you are getting false highs.
Have you had an elbo-pit draw for a lab and take a self-meter test at the
same time and see if they match? This has been for months. NO GOOD.
