hello

Hi everyone. I haven’t posted in quite a while and had to go on digest.
I have missed you all.
I am still following the Atkins plan and feeling wonderful. My endo was
thrilled with my decreased bg and told me to keep it up. Weight loss is
slow though but it is showing up in my clothes.
The problem is now the sugars are beginning to go up again. I had cut
down my insulin to 20 units in the am and 20 in the pm and had been
under 100 for every reading. I am back up to 30 units now and this
morning had the highest reading since I have been on Atkins … 180. I
am very frustrated by this. I think it must be stress because I noticed
the bg rising as soon as I started back to work (school) after Labor
Day. grrrrrrrrrrr. I am also wondering if my antidepressants have
anything to do with it. I guess I will have to resort to the one thing
I have been putting off…. the dreaded “e” word… exercise.
If anyone has any insights or feedback I would appreciate it. Forgot to

mention that I am type II.
BTW, I have found something I am really enjoying and thought some of you
who are not on Atkins still might enjoy it. I am getting the Atkins
shake mix. I use chocolate flavor and mix it with 2/3 c diet chocolate
soda and 1/3 c cream in the blender. This tastes rich and sweet and
feels like a dessert. I use this as a breakfast meal replacement and it
sticks with me until lunch. It’s especially great on those mornings when
I am running a little short on time and need something quick.

    Hey Karen,
We all know that stress will raise the bg’s! Soooooo, My advice is to take
some time for you and CHILL out! Put on some music, read a book, Take a WALK!
I have found that the exercise has been the best bg lowerer for me. I
resisted doing any because of the arthritis but I started out slow and now I
increase what ever I do a little at a time. I have never felt better. I have
much more confidence in myself too….I think the mental attitude goes up
each time I accomplish something physical!
NOW if I would only put the cigarettes down!
Keep up the good work with Atkins and remember to take one day at a time. I

hope I don’t sound like I am lecturing :0) I am trying to be encouraging.
    Does it sound Encouraging??? LOL!

Christine, yes your note does definitely sound encouraging. Thank you.
I feel that I am not alone and that always helps. I know that the
exercise will help relieve the stress and my neighbor was nice enough to
give me her old exercise bike so I have no excuse… except that I hate
    it. *LOL*

I HATED exercise….I always said that getting dressed was more than enough
exercise for me! LOL! But the truth is once I was told it was so important
for my control of Diabetes I started walking. Just a very short distance and
with stops. Then I added swimming…first just walking back and forth and now
I swim laps! I would never get my face wet before. I now get upset with all
this rain because I want to go swimming. Well I could go in the street with
the amount of rainfall the last few days! :0)

Maybe if you start with very small goals you will begin to enjoy reaching
them and then going to bigger goals!
    Now for my Finale,
    AMEN!

Walking is great esp. when I could see but now i putts which is not as
helpful. I hate the bike riding…I have no bottom so it hurts…my
hubby went and bought mme a lambs wool covering to put over the seat but
still not too comfortable. So I now have a treadmill which can be boring
but works when I work it. I also just walk in place and lift light
weights. That is the easiest. I do think that exercise is good. THe
doc. has seen some improvement in circulation in my feet since I went to
work. Right now I am very upset…took my sugars after a very
respectable evening and was 193 this morning. I just do not get it.
Nothing different even less food and carbos and still crazy this am. I
know that stress does some damage but this is crazy. I guess I’ll do a
little more walking this am. Becki

  5. rodney_800 Says:

    To All,
Wish you guys were all closer and we could exercise together. Used to be
really good about it, but five years ago I stopped and did not start back.
I now have respiratory problems plus diabetes and really need it. Just
getting over a really bad viral inf and been really sick, but my goal is to
get a exercise program going and I will stick with it. Too bad we can’t all
    visit while we are exerecising.

I was getting frustrated over 120-130 morning readings and the doc said that
    was ok.
But since I have increased my exercise it has been between 110-118. 193 is
high, but if it is an isolated incident maybe it is ok. I am new to this so I
am not sure. And I must say I am Jealous that you have NO BUTT! Do you want
some of mine? Free shipping! LOL!

I haven’t posted here in a few months, so I’ll introduce myself again
My name is Glenn, I live in Toronto (home of the Maple Leafs) I have been
    on insulin since 1987
I take NPH & Humalog I workout at the YMCA at least 4 times a week & feel
    great most of the time
I have worked at the same job now for over 5 years & have not told one
person I am diabetic. I test my sugar level 4-6 times a day & never have
had a problem. I don’t want to be labeled a “diabetic” Most of my friends
& family know. My father was diabetic for over 50 years
I was wondering if other people are like me ? I just don’t feel
    comfortable telling people
    Cheers
    Glenn
    BTW
Maple Leafs That’s Ice Hockey eh LOL

  8. compton900 Says:

    Glenn.
I guess I am the opposite of you. I really did not want to talk
about the disease in the beginning but now I talk to anyone who will
listen. I did not know that I could be a diabetic because it was not in
my family. I never dreamt that it would attack my body. Then when I do
find it I also find out that it has gone right to my eyes and I was
losing sight. Now I tell everyone to get checked and be a ware that it
could happen to them. I do NOT want anyone else to go through this
living HELL without warning. Also I am afraid that I might have a
reaction and need help. If I did not tell people they might not know I am
in trouble. Also as I have stated before I HATE wearing this silly
braclet but it really is not silly. It might save my life one day. I do
not like to admit I was so dumb not to know about this disease. It is
such a silent killer esp. for type II. Everyone thinks they are
borderline diabetics because they are NOT ON INSULIN. There is no such

thing as borderline. Once a diabetic always a diabetic unless you are
lucky enough to have a transplant (other problems) or can control it with
meds. exercises, diet or anyone of the above. Glenn, I am glad that
family and friends know but you are not always with them. Confide in
someone at work so at least someone might be there if you are in trouble.
Just my own thoughts on the subject. Becki

Hello everyone out there in internet-land. This morning I woke up to blood
sugar of 1.8 mmol/l (about 33 mg/dl). I had to ask John to get up and get
me some sugar from the kitchen, because I was afraid to try to get out of
bed! (Although I suspect that my - activities - with John MAY have had
something to do with my low bg!) Anyway, things are back to normal now.
The weather is sunny and cool, John’s gone to work, the cats are basking
in the sun. Now if I could just find work for myself, things would be
    great.
