Speaking of carb counting
I’m on 1500 calories a day with 190 grams of carbohydrates. That works out
to about 12.6 carb exchanges for the whole day which I have to admit often
feels pretty skimpy to me. Speaking of carbs, though, does anyone know the
carb count for strawberries? I bought some beauties today and I’m not sure
how many to pack in my lunch for tomorrow.

I am pretty sure that one half cup of strawberries has 15 carbs. How are you
BG’s on 190 gms? I have to keep mine between 30-50. I have found that the
less carbs I eat the less I want them.

Kathleen,,,1 cup of fresh strawberries is 10.5 grams of carbo. or about
2/3 of a unit of carbo. It also has fibre in it so it is good for you.
I usually put a little coolwhip on it and you feel like you have eaten a

low carb/high protein diet?

Thanks. About fiber…on my most recent trip to a dietician I was told
that it is okay to deduct the number of grams of fiber from the number of
grams of total carbohydrates on an item when counting carbs. Has anyone
else ever heard this?

I really don’t know if you would call it high protien! I am only having
either 1/2 a baked potato or 1 very thin slice of bread (3 slices equal 1 reg
bread) a day and I have no carb dressing on my salad. I do eat alot of salads
with some protien in it for lunch. I have salad and veggie and a small piece
of meat for dinner. I am not hungry at all and I am amazed I am still with
it. This is my life plan! My goal is to be able to control my diabetes with
diet and exercise. I want off the meds.

I have also heard about subtracting the fiber from the carbs. I have never
actually used it. But it may explain why, when I eat corn which is high in
carbs, it doesn’t seem to effect my bg like the equal number of carbs in
jelly donuts! <G

Christine, from what you wrote it does not sound like you are getting a
lot of prodein in your diet. You are getts some carbos but where is your
fruit. I see lots of vegs which we need for our vitamins etc, but you
need more fiber. Just a thought..Becki

KathlllI have never heard any thing like that. Fiber has nothing to do
with carbos on the list in the nutrition part of the labeling on
packages. It is important for us to have fiber and i take a fiber pill
and try to eat things that naturally have fiber in them. Carbos are
starches etc. which we need for energy. Without it our body will take
the energy from our fat cells and that is not good either. I do not look
at sugar on the label because I am more concerned about the total carbos
count so I know how many grams are there that can be converted into sugar
or energy. I do take a look at the fat because I do not want the total
over 5 grams if possible because I do not want to hamper the digestive
process or slow it down because of high fat. That is why I am surprised
that the At kin’s diet does not use skim milk. We do not need all that
fat in our diet. Becki

Christine, I am up at 3:10 in the morning and wish I could talk to you
about your 8 cigarettes….how much money would you have had to put into
the jar????You would be rich and enjoying something with your kids by
now. Out to eat….Christine you must talk to this person in person and
get some advice…if I was there I would throw them away and take a walk
or go to a movie with you. I wish that you were closer….keep the faith

Thanks Becki……What are you doing up at this time?????
I am home frome work today so I hope I can finally reach this instructor. I
am not doing well with the cigarettes. But I won’t give up. I need to be just
as determined as I am keeping my Diabetes under control. Speaking of
that…..time for my morning 20 min walk!
