friends

But, you see, since I have learned to live with rejection since 6 mos. of
age I put this protective shield around me. If someone tries to get too
close I can’t set myself up for another rejection. Family has rejected me -
I have this chronic disease that can make others uncomfortable, so I don’t
allow myself to get too close for fear of another rejection. That’s what’s
so nice about my new *Dad* and all you sisters - you can’t walk away from me
(of course, Iris could unsubscribe me). I can spout off and joke and all
that stuff and have FUN. I love to laugh - it’s toooo easy to cry. Someday
the Lord is going to wrap His tender arms around me and let me cry and cry
and cry until I’m all dried out. Then hold me some more. 8^)

Why on earth should a chronic disease make others
uncomfortable??…some people are lucky, and others are not…

Some people are like that. The unfamiliar, the unknown, makes them
uncomfortable. A good friend of mine has arthritis but as far as I’m
concerned it’s not a big deal - I just make sure that if I ask her to meet
me somewhere it’s a place without stairs because she can’t climb stairs.
She told me that she likes being with me because I don’t “make a fuss”
about her illness; she thinks that my having diabetes probably made me
more tolerant of other peoples’ diseases.

    FRIENDS
    A friend should be radical,
They should love you when you’re unlovable,
    Hug you when you’re unhuggable,
and bear you when you’re unbearable.
    A friend should be fanatical,
They should cheer when the whole world boos,
Dance when you get good news,
and cry when you cry too.
But most of all, a friend should be mathematical,
    They should multiply the joy,
    divide the sorrow,
Subtract the past, and add to tomorrow,
Calculate the need deep in your heart,
and always be bigger than the sum of all their parts..
