Shelia’s Virus
Shelia,
My PC has a tiny icon at the bottom right of my screen. When I point the
mouse at it, it says Norton Anti Virus enabled. How is that different from
yours? Am I protected? Do I have to do anything else?

Hey Jan, I have that icon also. I click it about every other day and it
brings up a menu and I scan the entire hard disk. I don’t know about yours I
just installed mine. I had the IBM anit virus and it runs itself but
obviously it does not do a good job. They say norton is the best. The very
first thing after I installed it came up with a virus in my windowsystem/exe.
I paniced and called the tech support and they walked me through deleting
the file. It took me a week to get all the bugs out. Thanks to this new
software and the extra $50 i had to pay bb to clean up. My computer was on
the verge of shutting down. I caught it just in time. Yours may do it
automatically. My sons does. His checks for viruses while booting up and
will not let system operate until it is cleaned up and virus are deleted.

Some of you may remember when I was on Digest for this list and had to have
help getting on *instant* messages. I’m *scared* enough that don’t like to
open any Fwd messages (get them 5x on one often). When they end with: Send
this to 5 people and make a wish . . . . I immediately delete that one. My
salvation and life do not depend on me sending e-mails to others. I’m not
going to get trapped into a *ritual.*
But, my PC often shows a *Warning! You have performed an illegal
operation and will be shut down!* message. When I have had BB check it, they
say nothing’s wrong.
Anyone know different?
I clicked on that little icon at the bottom awhile ago and it now says
Norton AntiVirus-Auto Protect Enabled. No menu though.

Jan, Please don’t get upset. Have you heard of ICQ? that is like another
instant messaging. My son used it on my computer before he got his. He would
talk to kids he did not even know. Some of what I got was from that. I
never download anything from anyone I do not know. I never do the chain
letter thing either. When this happened I almost got off onelist because
some of the viruses were from just opening a email to read. I think anti
virus software helps, The one I had just wasn’t doing the job. This one is.
Sounds like yours is automatic so don’t worry. I was just responding to that
email you received because I had no warnings of this happening and was
cautious with not opening mail or downloading from unknowns and had no idea
how easy it was to get this.
Now I have a question. And you are just the lady to answer it. How do I
quote someone when replying to the list. I am not good at that. I take it
you cut and paste so how do you do that and send mail? I have wanted to know
that for some time. But just afraid to ask. Thanks Shelia :O)
