SUGAR BABY - a poem for diabetes awareness
Not an ordinary child,
you’re special and unique.
My sugar baby.
To others, just another kid,
but to me, a warrior.
Courageous and bold.
You work so hard to maintain
what others take for granted.
Your whole life dictated by diabetes.
Schedules, shots, and finger pokes
you endure without complaint.
Your life support is in a vial.
At times you may feel afraid
but to me you are brave and strong.
You give me inspiration.
What I would give to trade places
and free you from this bondage.
I would rather it be me than you.
But for now,
we’ll walk this path together hand in hand.
Rallying towards a cure.
