stupid people

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004

Marius,
Since we only *hear* things about one another’s countries, help me
understand something. You are very intelligent and I realize you are from
South Africa. My dau’s in-laws were missionaries in Ghana and Ivory Coast,
West Africa. My son-in-law went to school 3 mos, then w/folks 1 mo., etc. He
actually is a man without a country: neither African nor American (as
defined . . . ) as far as culture is concerned. He is a stranger here. That
may explain some of his actions towards Hubby and me.
Anyway, his mom said to me that the Africans were so dumb. There is *proof*
in the USA that a baby must crawl to explore where things go when they fall,
how to figure out how to get around table legs, etc. In other words develop
their minds. I asked his mom if their babies crawled. She thought a second
and said, “No! They are carried around on the mom’s back for 3 years.”
How is it in SA? Are the babies carried? Are there different *classes* of
citizens and some do? Inform us.

bright sayings

Wednesday, May 19th, 2004

Family bright sayings:
#1 Granddaughter (8 years old): At a planetarium I explained the space scene of
the 7 astronauts who died in the explosion. Very perplexed, Stephanie said, “Did
they already have the chalk on them?” I asked what she meant. She said, “When
people die on TV they always have chalk drawn around them. Did they already have
the chalk on them when they went up?”
#2 When our daughter was 6 years old, she prayed for the missionaries in the
corn fields (foreign fields).
#3 I loved to match plaids when I sewed my little girl’s and my clothes. She met
a lady and Debbie said, “I like her; she has a plaid face.”
#4 Our daughter was learning to spell and a boy was walking around the
supermarket saying, “P-O-P pop, P-O-P pop, P-O-P pop. Debbie said she wanted to
learn to spell pop, too. I said “Go ahead.” She repeated at home what that boy
had said. I then said to her brother who is 10 mos. 14 days younger, “Davey,
spell pop.” He rattled off: “Two-S-N-A.”

Getting on w/my day

Wednesday, May 19th, 2004

I guess Marius is displaying another hissy fit over something. It is 9:00 a.m.
and I must get on with my day. I have a class, then a Toastmasters meeting this
evening. My house needs some kind of attention (Hi, house. There, was that
enough acknowledgement) and laundry, etc. I can’t just sit here and wait *just
in case* he decides to respond to anything. I’ll check periodically but cannot
keep my butt glued to this chair. My neck hurts from that fall and staring in
once pose doesn’t help. My bg needs some kind of exercise.

Back Home Again in Indiana…la de dah

Sunday, May 16th, 2004

Hello All (gave up the ya’ll since I’m not in Texas anymore!)
I got home just after lunch today! It is so good to be back in your own
place after over two weeks away. It didn’t seem like two weeks though,
maybe because it was MY parents (two weeks seems like a month with the
in-laws! — I love them to death, I really do, but it’s different, you
know.) I have to catch up on rest quick because I’m leaving again next
Wednesday (after our mayoral election) to spend a few days in NC with a
dear friend. After that, I’m staying HOME until after the new year!
It’s just too busy to fly around the holidays when you go stand-by!
I logged on not long after arriving home to be greeted by 472 e-mail
messages!!!! I’ve been reading them in groups through the afternoon and
evening and I still have over 150 yet to read! That’s a project for
tomorrow after the grocery store. I was trying to keep up with the
e-mail from Texas, but it just got too time consuming when it was taking
about 30 seconds or more for EACH e-mail to download. That’s not too

anemia

Friday, May 14th, 2004

Gail,
How is your kidney function? I get those EPO shots because I’m now at 25%
function and that loss causes anemia. I also take 300 mg Rx iron a day (when
I remember). Of course, anemia will weaken you. You need a kidney workup.
Take care, and the best to you.
