Thanks for being there for me…Becki
Hi Becki,
I am sorry you are having a stressful time. I can understand a little about
the lose of independence. My mom was called a social butterfly and a
galavanter by all who knew her! She was always on the go. Two years ago she
started having trouble breathing and was always tired. She wound up in the
hospital and after numerous tests it was discovered that she has Pulmonary
Hypertension. This is the disease that some people that used Phen-Phen got.
She never used that but has this anyway. She is now wheelchair ridden and
can’t even do the simplest tasks, such as dressing herself. She is on oxygen
24 hours a day and has an aide for 8 hours a day.

I have just recently joined the list and thought I would introduce myself.
My name is Christina, I live in Minnesota, I’m 18 years old and I have been
a diabetic for 2 years. I have had an insulin pump for about a year and a
half. I am still having a really hard time with accepting the diabetes and
getting under control with it. So before I bore you all to death I’ll go
but I just wanted to say hello and tell you all a little about myself.
Hugs
Christina

(I have purposely sent this about noon EST. However, the ISP has been very slow
lately so don’t know when it will arrive)
Today is kind of an emotional one for me. I had already missed a lot of school
for not feeling well, VERY thirsty, frequent urination, rapid loss of weight,
and very hungry. I remember trick-or-treating in 1950 with my friend Judy; I was
so sick I laid on a lawn because I couldn’t go up to the house to beg for candy
(candy was not the cause for my troubles). The next day I was taken for my
first-ever dr. visit. I was 11 years old. Dx: Run down. Need tonsils out. No
Way! Mom didn’t want me to get hurt. (Was given some pills. Very hard to swallow
so I cried and didn’t have to take them.)
Next day saw another doctor. Dx: Just a kid complaining. Vitamin shot
(first-ever injection). A bottle of (liquid back then) terrible-tasting vitamins
was prescribed. I just cried real hard and didn’t have to take it.
Excerpt from my diary: Wed. 11/1/50 Hot, windy. Stayed home from school.
Didn’t take pills. Lots better, so is Koko ((dog was taken to dr. before I

CAD: a man who acts with deliberate disregard for another’s feelings or
rights.
Didn’t know you owned *punny* rights. *Sorry*. lol
My first pun was when I was 3 and must have been in February (1943). I asked
my brother if he wanted me to do his Washing - ton. I wasn’t told about
this, I remember it.

Deena,
I add some in chili, definitely when I make bean soup, and am wracking my
brain to come up with something. I just asked my hugsband to tell you, and
he said it was more a “johnny come lately” thing added to their table. It’s
sure not like pepper. At his house they had to search the cupboards for
pepper - didn’t even know where they kept it 8^ (

Iris,
We citizens of the USA mark 11:00 a.m. on 11/11 as Veterans Day. Now. It was
Armistice Day, but it was decided to honor ALL veterans of foreign wars –
not just the 2 Big Ones. When I was in school we had to stand at our desks,
face the east, place our right hands over our hearts and listen while a lone
trumpeter played Taps. It was a moving and memorable thing. NOWADAYS, the
kids are out of school all day and don’t have a clue as to why!!!! It’s
another paid vacation day for the teachers.

Do you Americans mark November 11? Do you in South Africa, Marius? Here in
Canada we call it Remembrance Day (some call it Armistice

Hummm, … clery salt. Sounds good! I hadn’t thought of that before. What
do you like to put it on? I really should get my kids used to no dressing -
they’re into the ranch style stuff. We cut the serving size down a bit by
having dressing on the side … I found these little medicine type measuring
cups at Pic N Sav (major bargain place) and they are great for serving syrup
or dressing. They hold 2 Tablespoons exactly. Anyhow, tell me about celery
salt and what it goes best on ok?

P.S. I’m trying to change my onelist email address over to a better mailbox
and might miss a response so could ya cc “Deena@….” Thanks.
