Higher AM BG

Pat,
This same thing has been happening to me lately…Higher in the
morning…118-136.
When I test at night it usually isn’t above 100. I asked my NP about this in
an email just this morning and I have posted it to the list. It makes better
sense to me now.

You, my dear, said you never lie on your SITREP - implying that you lie on
ALL the other things. I’m just taking your words at face value. And you have
a lovely face.

I’m outta here for a spell

This box with keyboard is soooo addictive, but I have to see the backologist, go
to a computer class on e-mail (see if I can teach the instructor more - I’d like
to learn, but for $7 , heyy), then will check e-mail, make schedule for
tonight’s Toastmasters meeting, go to meeting. So I’m off for awhile. That will
give the chance for someone else to get an @ in edgewise.

Why Higher BG in AM?

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

Hello, All :~)
I sent an email to my diabetes NP and asked why BG may go up in the AM after
fasting all night…..Here is her reply:
It occurs because of the hormonal changes that occur while we sleep. We make
hormones like cortisone, growth hormone, etc.. while we sleep. These
hormones work against your body’s insulin making you more resistant to
insulin in the early morning hours. The liver produces the sugar. This is a
good mechanism when one doesn’t have diabetes because it gives us sugar
during the fasting time of the day (while we sleep). THe effect, however is
more pronounced sometimes in diabetes. Glucophage is the best med for that.
Good question. Have a good day. Jackie

SITREP & Sweet Women

Monday, December 27th, 2004

Yeah, having healthy neighbors is good for you. Your BG is in the single
digits even if it does have an added point. NEWBIES: his meter reads like
our HbA1c’s do. So I mentally convert his #. Iris is from Canada and told us
his (she converts hers for us) # should be multiplied by 18, or simply by 20
for those of us who are arithmetically inhibited/challenged or slightly
deficient.
On another post Marius asked since when are women sweeter than men. Well,
for one thing, count the male/female ratio on this list - much sweeter
female tendencies.
God made Adam, looked at what He had done and said, “I can do a better job.”

Deena,
If your ped endo is at UCLA that probably means you are in California
(welcome, don’t think we have another - at least posting - Californian).
I’m a backward Hoosier from northern Indiana. Cal. should “get with it!”
That road has a traffic signal at the intersection now for you to “GO” to
the nearest cooperative endo who prescribes pumps for kids. Call MiniMed at
(800) 933-3322 or the 800 # at the Disetronics website for a doctor’s name
near you who will. It’s your little one’s life and she needs the ultimate in
care. MiniMed is in Sylmar, CA; Disetronics has a place in Wisconsin or
Minnesota but based in Germany.

Due to the *snipped* post below and we have several new members since I
posted the7-Layer Ribbon Salad Recipe, I’m rerunning it.
“I do well most of the time but get out of control often. Evenings are
really a tough time for me. I try to have one
or two snacks. I also eat frozen diet pop ice cubes. I can’t sit and watch
TV but sometimes just go to bed very early. You might call it white knuckle
time. Pat W.”
