No, Becki, South Africa is in the dark(est) ages. That’s one thing so
frustrating about us trying to help Marius keep on track. He doesn’t have
the doctors or the medical techniques we do. He’ll be at work today I think
in the afternoon for us and I’m sure will give us some info on whatever.
Merredy started Big School yesterday - which I think to USA is first grade.
Quite an exciting event.

Sorry, but I just had to post, I am so excited. Dr’s office called this
morning and told me my A1C was 5.6. I think they were really surprised and
had to call me. I am really surprised, usually it runs in high 8s or low
9s. Alot is due to changing my insertion site, first time in 18 yrs. Also,
Jan, I think the soft serter has helped me too. Thanks for telling me about
it Jan.

Gail,
GREAT news!!
Since I KNOW you have changed your insertion site every 3-4 days and
this isn’t the first change in 18 years, I’m laughing thinking how the
others read your post. (sorry!) I just read it to Mr. Jan — he said, “Wow,
it must have been a good needle.”
8^D Yeah, I think the SofSerter had something to do with it. My best
A1C was 6.8. Glad you wrote.

Since Jessica got diabetes she has been climbing in the HbA1c, her last
one was 7.4 and I am afraid the next one will be a litte higher. I do
not want it to get any higher as I do not want her to get comfortable
with those results. My goal for her life is not to have any
complications due to DM. Good luck to all of us. Janet

Janet,
My best to you and Jessica and that is the desire for all of us. But, not to burst your bubble, it is a matter of the luck of the gene pool, mostly. I know of a set of identical twins who are both diabetics. The one young man followed NO rules and has no complications. The other followed all the rules and has all the complications. We can do our best, though. Bottom line, don’t beat yourself up in case Jessica does get some complications. You will set yourself up for a major guilt trip. Do the best you can for her but don’t make her feel guilty by disappointing you, either. She may take that upon herself. Several of us on this list have childhood issues and we don’t need to add someone else with lifelong unnecessary *stuff.* I do feel my mom is not only so jealous she can’t see straight, but she is so guilt-ridden she can’t face me. I’ve had an A1c of 15.6 already, and before 20 years ago it was probably that most of the time. Who knows? There was no such test. We need to
take advantage of the tools we are offered now, but don’t shoulder a burden you can’t do anything about - just do your best.
AND, another thing, you mentioned you had more children than Jessica. I get concerned for siblings on another list with the intense control the parents seem to have. Some get up every 2 hours to check the BG and cover with insulin if required. I suggested they go in to the non-DM children once in awhile to pat them or something while sleeping so that child also knows they are important and the DMer doesn’t get ALL the attention. It isn’t good for the DMer nor the non-DMer(s). 8^)
As you said, Good luck to all of us.

P.S. ALSO, I didn’t *poopread* again. I meant my endo was one of 2 PUMP drs. in my state in early ’80s.

Jan, I am going to bed soon, Thanks for replying to me tonight and you
are W.O.W.
Thanks for the reality check, I try not to do the quilt thing. My hubby
may be a little stressed out about this. I just explain the way things
can be and just give her a hug. I have read the statements made by
those that do have childhood issues and do not plan being one of those
parents. I also have some issues from childhood that I do not want to
pass on to my children. My other child is a boy, he is ten. Jacob is
into sports and I take him here and there for games. I tuck in bed
everynight with a kiss on the cheek and a hug. I take him to the ice
cream store (Jessica goes too and gets her kind) and give him a little
treat behind Jessica’s back once in a great while. He knows what to
watch for in Jessica’s behavior and I do not think he feels left behnd
or not special. They do the sibling fighting. I do not check Jessica’s
number’s in the middle of the night, (when we get the pump we will have
to for a little while to make sure we are on track.) unless she has had
a low- low before bed, Then I make her sleep with me. Then of course
the next night Jacob has to sleep with me. Then sometimes we have a camp
out in the living room. LOL)
Except for the normal kids stuff nagging I think I am doing good, I hope
I hope.
Have a good night.
Janet
