Thanks To All From Pat
Hi All,
I have received responses from so many of you and they were all well
accepted. I am getting the idea of your list now. Sounds as if you are all
very close and enjoy your fun times. That is really a wonderful support
system and one we seldom get from any where else. Nothing like finding
someone in the same circumstances as yourself. I am also on the
DiabetesandRecovery@onelist loop. This list is for Overeaters Anonymous
members with diabetes. Can you imagine what a difficult combination these 2
diseases can be?
I wrote about my food cravings in the evening. They are intense and seem so
impossible to change. My food plan set up my a dietitian is:
45 carbohydrates with each meal and 30 for snacks to have at any time. Then
the protein is 1 oz for breakfast, 2 oz for lunch and 4 for dinner. 5 fruits
and vegetables. This is plenty of food and the carbohydrates certainly help
fill me up. She is very opposed to Adkins diet. She thinks my diet is a
good healthy diet and one we all should live on. I am overweight and have
lost only 10 pounds since July. I do well most of the time but get out of
control often. Evenings are really a tough time for me. I try to have one
or two snacks. I also eat frozen diet pop ice cubes. I can’t sit and watch
TV but sometimes just go to bed very early. You might call it white knuckle
time.
My challenge right now is to figure out why I have elevated liver enzymes.
The docs are trying different things. I really don’t quite understand much
about this or if it has anything to do with diabetes.
Thank you so much for your help. I will look for fun responses.

Do you get any milk exchanges? I love sugar free cocoa as an evening
snack; takes a while to drink it down, tastes wonderful (love chocolate)
and being hot is seems to fill me up.
Here’s a quick recipe for a chocolate coffee drink that is GREAT in the
winter. No milk in this one.
I spoonful of instant coffee
1-2 packets of sugar substitute
2 teaspoons cocoa powder
Mix together in a coffee cup, add a little water and stir well to
dissolve the cocoa powder, fill with more water and heat in the
microwave until hot.
This one is a freeby and REALLY good when it is cold outside. I made
this one up when I saw that the International Coffee Double Dutch
Chocolate sweetened with sugar sub still had 30 calories per
serving…from FAT!!!

Hi Becki,
I think I need to clarify these carbohydrates. I believe 15 carbos = 1
carbo serving. Is this the way you count them.? I count the actual carbo
numbers as are listed on packaged foods. Yes this is a 1400 calorie diet. I
guess you are counting the carbo servings when you talk about 1 1/2 for
breakfast. This would be about 20 carbos. Yes I count vegetables and fruit
and milk and all. My blood sugars are usually high in the morning 140 - 170
and normal the rest of the day. If I could just manage my evening eating
better I believe it would help those morning numbers. I am on Glyburide,
Glucophage and 20 units of insulin at night.
Thanks for your note,
Pat W.

Pat,
I just cannot get used to eating carbohydrates and proteins, over
here in Darkest Africa we eat FOOD!! (maybe the reason for my
high BG?)
I have lost about 30kg in a few months and just because I eat
LESS. Have you tried reading a book instead of watching TV?
I may joke and banter but one thing I’m dead serious about is
sending my SITREP (situation report) I NEVER lie on my SITREP
(IF I send it!!) How about doing the same and we can support and
encourage you?
