Hi all, I have not posted in a while, but last night I hear something
that really makes me curious.
I was talking with a retired RN and told her my daughter is type I
diabetic and she asked me if Jessica(12) had started puberty.
She went on to say that hormones might be the cause of the diabetes and
that in 5 years she bets that Jessica will out grow it and not have to
take insulin. Now I have never heard such a thing and was a bit upset
that she would even say that. Have any of you ever heard of this?

WANT AND/OR NEED TO!!! We may not always stick to the topic of diabetes here –
hey we’re a friendly list — nurturing a bunch of new-found friends who need
someone to talk to even if it’s a keyboard with a screen. Someone needs to hear
us at one point or another.

When I read you message I just had to reply.
I have had been a diabetic for 43 yrs and have watched and done everything
prescribed for me over the years (and believe me they have varied greatly).
I have always had a battle with weight, but with dieting and exercise I
stayed a good weight for me and was not over weight at all. Anyway, I like
you started having trouble with asthma (never smoked). They put me on all
kinds of inhalers and I started swelling all over, then they put me on
prednisone and this fall I was down six weeks. Swollen so bad all over I
could not even walk across the room without gasping for my breath. I even
broke out in chicken pox. The swelling went down finally. But I like you
gained alot during this time and I cannot get any of it off. I am trying
to do strengthening exercises so I can get back to walking anywhere and on
