Thanks for this exciting tidbit, Jan. I love ice cream and pops! I haven’t
gone near the sugarfree stuff because the few I checked when first diagnosed
had too many carbs. I will go right out and buy these!!!! Yippeee :~)
Can you tell how happy I am?

Christine,
Watch out for the ice cream stuff and the JUICE bars!! read the labels. I’m
only talking the S-F popsicles.

Jan is right (no problem Jan, you’ve been dealing with this for a LONG
time); gotta read those food labels. Sneaky stuff in there.
Ok…another diet story. Many moons ago, had a man who bought “diet”
ice cream. Sweetened with sorbitol. In the hospital we use sorbitol to
treat severe constipation.
Serving size was 1/2 cup but heck, who’s reading. It’s diet right.
Consumed the entire package (1 quart). In or near the bathroom for the
next 2 days. Sorbitol works very effectively.
Have made sugar free ice cubes by freezing sugar free koolaid in ice
cube trays. Good to munch on at night, especially in the summer.

Gail,
I thank you for that suggestion also…..I don’t like fruit juice type
stuff…too sweet for me. Thanks anyway! I went to the store and could not
get the Good Humor pops! :~(
I will have to look in the other two grocery stores tomorrow. When I looked
at the sugar free or no sugar added ice cream the carbs were 17-19 in a 1/2
cup. I checked the carbs on regular ice cream that I buy the kids and it only
has 18 for 1/2 cup. And that one is Double choc chunk!!! Go figure.

Oh I always check the labels…I don’t want any surprises! I never bothered
to look at the sugar-free ice cream before. I really never use artificial
sweetners. I am just naturally sweet! Thanks to diabetes! I am excited
though to try those pops because it is only 3 carbs. Even if it has a little
aftertaste I think I will enjoy it every now and again.
Thanks :~)

Those food manufacturers are sneaky!!!! When they say sugar free, they
mean sucrose free. They sorta forget about any other sugar they put in
“diabetic” ice cream.

Hi Gail,
Well, what do we know…… another intelligent diabetic!
Wwwhhhhhhoooooopppppppeeeeee!
That reminds me of the time, several years ago, when some kind-hearted
friends bought me some “sugar-free chocolates” that nearly killed me.
Sure, they were “sugar-free” but they were loaded with calories and other
types of sugars but none of that nasty word “sugar” you can bet.
Blessings, Wally.
