not again!!!

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Dear Gang at One List,
Well, as I reported earlier this week, I saw son and Hannah 3 times on Monday.
On Tues the mom and her 2 other girls and D.&H came for Christmas. Saw them all
again — Dave said they had more to do in town and asked if they had a place to
stay (here). I said, “You know in this house, you and S can’t sleep in the same
bed.” He said yeah. (I think he would have been disappointed if I’d okayed it).
But the 7&9 y/o girls slept on the LR floor, Dave on the couch, the mom in the
3/4 bed. (She’s a very large lady and the 2 wouldn’t have fit it.) Hannah was to
sleep in that bed with her mom - against the wall to not fall out. She ended up
on couch in daddy’s arms. BB has an infection and was pretty hot last night so
they left the 3 girls with me and went to 24-hr mkt to get liquid Tylenol. (I
would think one would have some in a diaper bag.) I didn’t get to bed until
12:30 last night. My foot was really hurting being up on it and running after
people. AND my house was/is a mess. I just don’t have the energy to clean it.
I woke up about 5:30, took a BG (220) and my *empty stomach* pills. a couple

low bg ??

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

i have a question…well a couple of them, actually…
first off, is it true that when your sugars have been
high for a long time, when they first begin to come
down, you will fell like they are low sooner?? i’m
shaking and sweating like it’s really low…but only at
106.
secondly, do you treat it as though it is as low as it
feels, or will it pass??
answers anyone??

quack doctor…??

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

i think my old doctor is a quack. i’m not sure what to
do about it. what do you guys think?
i saw her for a routine checkup…and she did my a1c,
which came back at 6.0. If I am not mistaken, the
diagnosis level is 6.5, right? Anyways, she sent me a
copy of my lab slip and on it she wrote that I was no
longer diabetic. I could stop testing my sugars and
could stop following the diabetic diet.
Well that worked ok for about a year….and when I
started to get sick again, she thought “maybe the
diabetes is sneaking back in”. My fasting sugar that
day was 251…
That was the last time I saw her…I promptly switched
doctors.
But it still bothers me that she could and did say what

Jan’s bb son - not a short answer

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

DO NOT expect me to give a short answer when asking me a Q. ;) Oh, the glories of pumping and the technologies of today!! Before insulin
was discovered (1921) Type 1’s just died! Then when it was used, diabetics
got pg, but the babies were born dead. Then they figured if they were
delivered early enough they could survive. The trick: late enough for the
lungs to be developed, early enough to live.
In ‘50 when I was dx’d, remember my mom didn’t think the diet was all
that necessary. I didn’t like milk (love it now - I should have been
required to drink it since it WAS on my list but didn’t have to do anything
or eat anything I didn’t want - and wasn’t trained to do housework or
anything - was a spoiled brat and mollycoddled).
When I was 13 I fell at the skating rink and got my ankle out of place
(no dr. even tho DMer) and since that time have said if you cut my head off
I’d feel better because that’s the part that bothers me. Xrays show a
reverse curve to my neck. That’s probably one reason it hurts so much from

Time for Jan’s nag Q

Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

Christine,
That’s a YRMV (Your Results May Vary) thing. Too much protein may be
difficult for some diabetics’ kidneys to process — especially Type 1’s.
The BIG Q: How’s the nicotine habit coming? I’m going to report it to
Marius when he returns. ;-) BTW - I bb sat for about an hour forenoon today with my 10 mo,
16-day-old granddaughter from Muncie. It brought back only realization (not
yearning) that when my dau was that age I had a 2-day-old son — dying in
the hospital (he’s this bb’s father now). I had so much devestation back
then that between my son and grandson (26 yrs. later) I held one baby
briefly because the mother asked me to while she got something out of her
car. I didn’t even want to look at babies.
About 3p.m. son called from their motel and asked if the 7-yr-old could
come and play with me — she was bored and her mom had plans, another 1/2
sis was at her stepmom’s and he was taking bb to my mom’s. Alex came and son
