it is me

Hi Gang, I was just informed by Jan that I should re introduce myself to
some of the new members. I guess I have been in this group for almost a
year. I have been diagnosed as a diabetic since Oct. 16th, 1996. I
almost died from blood poisioning and almost lost my foot that month then
was told that I was a diabetic who was going blind. What a month….a
year later I was blind for 3 months and after the seventh operation they
were able to give me back a little sight. I am legally blind….blind in
the left eye and tunnel vision with cataract in the right. I lost my job
went into depression and came out of it fighting and now working for the
Boys and Girls club as the art and educational specialist. My life has
changed a lot and I am trying had to not let the diabetes run my life but
me have control of the disease. My sugars are not always wonderful but
try hard. I take insulin twice a day, also an ace inhibator for my heart
and kidneys. I basically a healthy person. I count carbos and try to
follow some schedule but want to be classified as a first class person

and not a blind diabetic. I facilite a blind support group in Tampa,
Florida and live here with my husband and teenage daughter. I have an
adopted daughter who is getting her masters this summer in Architecture.
I am so proud of both of them. I feel that education is the key to
fighting everything. I hope that I have not bored any of the old timer
or the newbies. I am here if you have any questions that I can answer.
I enjoy a good story and love to laugh, which we do a lot on this list.
I look forward to getting to know you all better. Becki

Gail, I thought I was an open book and told it all already. So I guess
I still have things to share. Thanks for the support. Becki
