outgrowing stuff

Monday, October 24th, 2005

I’m thinking (hoping) I *growed up* last year. ;) I have had hay fever for
years and sometimes would almost choke sneezing 7-9 times in a row. Could
hardly get my breath. I took Seldane for allergies and endo took me off that
because it was discontinued (not good for people*). He put me on Allegra. I
had ONE capsule last year in April (it caused me to be sleepy, too) and that
was it. I didn’t need another one all year. Either I grew up or that one
dose cured me. 8^).
*I say I’m not going to die from diabetes, I’m going to die from the
medications, etc. I have taken to help me: DBI (BG-lowering pill) took for
16 years from pg time ’til ‘72-’73.
Seldane (allergy pill)
Cyclamates (artificial sweetener - sugar industry didn’t like it)
Dyazide (BP-lowering pill - not good for diabetics’ kidneys)
All were removed from the market after I took/ingested for more than a
decade.

Another good list of things to ponder

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

Some questions to ponder. . .
1. Is it good if a vacuum really sucks?
2. Why is the third hand on the watch called the second hand?
3. If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever
know?
4. If Webster wrote the first dictionary, where did he find the
words?
5. Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?
6. Why does “slow down” and “slow up” mean the same thing?
7. Why does “fat chance” and “slim chance” mean the same thing?
8. Why do ‘tug’ boats push their barges?
9. Why do we sing “Take me out to the ball game” when we are already
there?
10. Why are they called “stands” when they are made for sitting?
11. Why is it called “after dark” when it really is “after light” ?

When I’m sick, I never feel it was worth it until I have lost some weight.
Well, being ill over the last month and just got my appetite back about a
week ago, I had lost about 13#. Tried on one of my dresses that I haven’t
been able to wear for awhile and it FIT!! 8^) Wore it to church even though
it wasn’t one to wear in 18F weather. Figured if I didn’t wear it today, I
may not get into it later.
Well, about 3-4 people mentioned that I had lost weight. 8^) That
wouldn’t have been worth it either if they hadn’t noticed!!!
BTW, I have big bruises on the backs of both arms from my contortion act in
the bathroom Thursday!

Becki,
It sounds like when we got gold stars on a chart in 6th grade for brushing
our teeth. But, even then, we didn’t have to bring a note from our
parents — the teacher took our word for it. I would have had your
attitude.

Hey group…. I went to a diabetic support group last
Tuesday and walked away a little upset. I have been going to this group
for 3 years. This year the facilitator decided that we need incentive to
take care of ourselves. I guess I took this wrong. I do not need anyone
else looking over my shoulder. I go to the group for new information and
not to be asked it I went to the dentist, etc. We get a little box
checked off by the facilitator if we bring in proof that we are really
checking our sugars and recording them. Seeing different doctors etc. I
had seen my in Dec. and again that does not count because it has to be in
2000. This upset me because I do take care of myself and just because my
cycle of going does not agree with the facilitators who is not diabetic
no credit was given. Also I hate that I can not just say I went and have
the doc. sign…it just does not seem right that we are controlled by
someone else. The incentive was a free talk with a dietitian or cook
book or free diabetic strips, new meter, etc. This I find very

Letter from a wise women( kind of like Jan!)

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Subject: letter by a wise woman
This was written by an 83 year old women to her friend.
I’m reading more and dusting less. I’m sitting in the yard and admiring the
view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I’m spending more time
with my family and friends and less time working. Whenever possible, life
should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I’m trying to
recognize these moments now and cherish them.
I’m not “saving” anything; we use our good china and crystal for every
special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the
first Amaryllis blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is
if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries.
I’m not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks
in the hardware store and tellers at the bank.
“Someday” and “one of these days” are losing their grip on my vocabulary. If
it’s worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now.
