introduction and question

Monday, January 9th, 2006

Hi everyone,
My name is Tom Moriarty. I am new to the list. I am a 23 year old graduate
student in Boston, MA. I have been a type 1 diabetic since I was 15. I am in
good control and have not experienced any complications.
I am actually writing the list in relation to my master’s project, which I am
working toward completing in May to graduate with a master’s dgree in print
journalism. I am writing a series of articles related to diabetes.
I was hoping to find someone who might be interested in being profiled as part
of my project. I was wondering if there was any list members out there who might
be interested. I was hoping to find someone who not only is diabetic, but who
also works with diabetics as a physician or as a volunteer. Or perhaps someone
who has a close family member who is diabetic and was inspired to work with
diabetics or to volunteer for diabetes organizations.
As a future journalist, i feel that diabetes is undercovered in the media. My
goal is to produce a project that shows the personal side of diabetes, instead

insulin pump

Sunday, January 8th, 2006

I need to talk to you guys a little. I am leaving a little to go see a DE
about ordering an updated pump. Something I should be looking forward to,
but I dread it. First of all the DE will treat me as though I know nothing
about pumps and then the insurance company will do the same(even though I
have been on one over 18 yrs). Then my husband jumps in and says “be sure
and tell the insurance company…..”. I asked him to go with me, but no
way. It becomes a three ring circus between the DE, insurance and mini med.
And somewhere alone the line they have all forgotten that this machine has
not only kept me alive the last 18 yrs, but in much better shape. But that
seems to mean nothing to anyone. I guess what I am saying is I feel like I
am getting ready to go into battle and I don’t know if I am strong enough.
I know some of you understand what I am talking about.

Babs’ Beads

Baubles, Babette, and Beads
Babs is busy, buried in beads
buying and boasting and building her needs;
Stirring the little ones shaped just like seeds
with finger in jar from her baby’s feeds.
I’ll HAVE to sign that one Author Unknown!

Yes, Babs is playing with her beads…. ; )
Babs loves to play with beads…
They are soothing, calming, cool to the touch.
They are aesthetically pleasing.
They are different colors, different shapes, different materials.
They are as artistically inviting as a box of crayolas to a child.
They are collectible, and I can’t collect enough.
Babs bows and slips off giggling::

2’s

Yeah, I saw the b/s pic and that also came in in 2’s. When I open it, it has
2 attachments. The first one I click on and it gives me a white page with a
little red X in in the top left corner, but the 2nd one opens. They say on
the attachment line what size they are. The first one is smaller and that is
the one that won’t open. Each pic - kids, beads, you, etc. comes in
thataway. ;-) Jan
