VISITORS

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

I forgot to mention, we’re getting real special visitors next month.
My ex co-driver on the electric locomotives is coming to see his
son for a weekend and will drop in here.
His wife is also a diabetic and on a home dialysis(sp) system.
Her kidneys have stopped functioning completely and she is blind
again. Again, because about 15 years ago she lost her sight
completely for about a year and then regained it.
Despite all this she remains a very cheerful person.

Glory’s shots

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Glory made it just fine, Jan. You are right about the stress. I have had a
couple of stressful weeks and my BG has gradually gone up. Not high, just
running slightly higher, but if the stress keeps up I am sure it will be
back up there. I think some of it is just me, I feel so much more stressed
out for no reason.
Hope you can get your a/c fixed. Have you told hubby yet?

DEP

Monday, August 28th, 2006

JAN, AFTER READING THAT ARTICLE THAT YOU HAVE
POSTED ABOUT DEPRESSION, DO YOU THINK THAT COULD
BE THE CAUSE OF ME NO BEING BOTHERED ABOUT MY BG?
SORRY FOR SHOUTING BUT MY EYES ARE SO OUT OF
FOCUS.

Bethany & pg

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Bethany,
All sorts of hormone dumps and such affect a woman who is pg. In the last
trimester (today) the insulin requirements may even triple. Good BG levels
are what you want for you AND the bb(s). I thought you were getting a pump -
forgot when. A pump will NOT be perfect, but will be soooo much better than
MDI. You’ll be in control and can tweak and correct as needed. Good Luck.

I have arriven

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

I have returned home from getting a dx on my a/c. There was NO
refrigerant in it (I think the dealership yesterday removed it - they put in
1# and told me they’d take it out if I didn’t want it repaired). This guy
put in 3# and a dye. I’m to drive it with the a/c on, but can use *warm.*
Probably Monday I’ll go back and he can detect a leak(s). I’ll be driving
with my fingers crossed. Sure don’t wanna pay $1450.00!!!!! like they told
me yesterday.
BG = 95

excerpt from that Depression article I ran before

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

“The reason the emotional side of diabetes is so vital is because once you
develop something like depression, it can have a negative influence on the
way we handle this disease,” Johns said. “You may not be as motivated to
follow your exercise routine, to follow your diet.” And so, a vicious circle
is created.
“This is why as health professionals, we address this aspect,” Johns
said. “I would encourage anyone with depression to get help from a mental
health professional. If you have a cavity in your mouth, you get treated for
it so you don’t have to suffer unnecessarily, like-wise with depression,
anxiety or any other emotional problem.”

Hi Karen and Jan

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Welcome Karen and I second anything Jan said. I am a diabetic type I for 43
yrs and on a pump for 18yrs. And have learned alot off this group. So ask
away.
Jan, how have you been feeling the last few days. You have been posting,
but not how you are feeling. I hope your pain is down. I have to take Glory
to the vet for her shots today. It upsets me, just like taking one of my
kids. I try to be extra nice to her and get her something afterwards. She
does not like going to the vet, but is so brave and good. I will be gone
for awhile, but back later. All take care.

Looking for a buddy

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Hi Karen,
If you want a dozen or more buddies, we’re here for you. Christine is a T-2
and has lost over
50# and can encourage you a lot. I believe she’s in NY right now on a trip.
My hugsband is a regional steel hauler so I know a bit about truck life. He
is also showing *positive* signs of T-2 (bummer). Are you seeing an
endocrinologist (or as Marius says, endocriminologist)? That’s best since
he/she is well versed (should be anyway) about all the ins and outs of DM.
To be the best you can be, get a dr. who specializes in DM. It’s YOUR health
you are talking about.
We are a *looney* bunch of *sweet* people on this list - or the parent of a
sweet person. We are also an international group. Our list owner, Iris, is
from Canada; we have others from Canada; a teenager, Sarah Fish is from
Australia; Yvette is from the Netherlands; and certainly NOT least, Marius
Calitz from South Africa. Then there is a large group of us from USA, some
