Joan here…..where does friend live???? Heat effects meters the way cold
does….time for friend to take matters in hand….if he can afford it,
needs
to get to a good endo….if he’s in the US, Dr. Joe Prendergast has the
Diabeteswell.com web site and can do electronic management via e-mail, which
might be a good thing. Don’t know if they can accept out of the US clients,
but there ain’t no harm in tryin”.
Time for friend to do serial bgs….needs to make sure he does not have an
adrenal tumor - diabetes insipidus…but then his sugars would be off the
ceiling and he’d be in real trouble. Sounds like he needs major education
for himself….Later, Joan:)

gotta go for awhile

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Gang,
Gotta go, can you believe it, I am having company for supper tonight. I am
having chicken lasgna in white sauce (cheating it is frozen) relish tray,
garlic bread and dessert. My life has really gone to pot here lately. I
really would rather be on here talking to you guys. This sort of stresses
me out. The couple coming tonight were here last night and just feel every
weekend they should come over Fri and Sat night. They are getting me
stressed out. I have to lie to them some times and say we have something
else and they always ask about it.
Next weekend I am telling them we are going to Indy on Sat (which we are)
but I am telling them we won’t be back early enough to get together, which
I don’t know if we will or not. But I am not going to entertain after I
have spent a day going to Indy.
Ok is this venting enough, got it out of my system. Look I know there are
all kinds of solutions, but this couple is a tough cookie to crumble.

advantage

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Denis,
I use the Accuchek Advantage. I have had serveral machines and still own
three, but I like the ease and the best results of the Advantage. Marius is
right, (just this once, but what can you expect from someone that can’t
spell Brazil) the soft clix is great and I use the comfort curve strips in
my Advantage.

your friend

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Gang,
I don’t usually send something like this on, but I thought it was worth it.
It has nothing to do with diabetes, but with friends which I feel all of
you are to me.

Friendship
In kindergarten, your idea of a good friend
was the person who let you have the red
crayon when all that was left was the ugly black one.
In first grade, your idea of a good friend was the person who went to the
bathroom with you and held your hand as you
walked through the scary halls.
In second grade, your idea of a good friend
was the person who helped you stand up
to the class bully.

N’hood Garage sale

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Marius (& Denis & Iris & Toast/Fish & Yvette)
Do you have such things as Garage Sales in your country? When we moved 33
years ago, there was no such thing. I gave a box of dishes to a neighbor who
insisted on carrying it home (biggg, strong man). I soon heard CRASH,
TINKLE, POP, etc. And to think now, I could have sold it instead of
trashing it.

Gail,
Did you see my post aimed at Denis yet? I said that remark. <gr

SITREP - tad

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

I am SOOOOOO glad my *bit* of advice was heeded - that was needed.
DENIS - we/he forgot to *mention* that he plays Pinocchio around the clock.
He just likes to get our feathers ruffled. BTW, in the rest of the world
besides USA and Japan, the BG readings are mmol/dl (?). So when Marius
gives us 4.1, we multiply by 18 (simpler x20) to get our value.

Are you a *think-a-holic*?

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then
to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another, and soon I was
more than just a social thinker.
I began to think alone - “to relax,” I told myself - but I knew it wasn’t
true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was
thinking all the time.
I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don’t mix,
but I couldn’t stop myself. I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I
could read Thoreau and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and
confused, asking, “What is it exactly we are doing here?”
Things weren’t going so great at home either. One evening, I turned off the
TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her
mother’s.
I soon had a reputation as a heavy thinker. One day the boss called me in.
He said, “Skippy, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking

in-laws

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Wendy told me yesterday that her parents were coming to visit this
weekend. Apparently I invited them over when I talked to them just
a few hours after I had the op. DAMN that Halothane!! always
knew that I was allergic to it….
I promptly gathered all the garlic I could get my hands on and hung
it above the door, dusted the silver crucifix, polished my silver
bullets and waited for things to happen.
I could not help it but fell asleep before they arrived at 9am this
morning. I woke up at 4pm and cautiously opened our bedroom
door and peeped out. Mom-in-law’s broom was parked in the usual
place and her familiar, Sharky the sausage dog, was cavorting with
Spud. It all ended well, maybe I’ll still turn onto a frog but for the
time being a truce has been declared.
