Connie,
That's what u100 means: 100 units per CC so Humulin Regular is the same
strength - just the timing is off. I believe Humalog works 5-15 minutes,
peaks 1-2 hours and is out of the system in 5-6 hours. Think HR works in
about 1/2 hr., peaks 2-4 hrs. and last about 8 hrs. As always, test, test,
test. I think you have 2 chances of DKA: fat and slim.
When I was changed from u40 to u80 strength I had an awful time figuring
that one out. Then it was explained to me that the units were according to
the strength. I then took 45 units of u40 or 45 units of u80. IT'S THE
SYRINGE THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE. I had to switch from u40 syringes to u80
syringes. Therefore, using a u100 syringe is the crucial point here.
Later,
dr. Jan
I won't be home until the middle of next week and only have enough to last
until tomorrow at best. I bought a vial of Humulin R (regular) at Wal-Mart
<!--more-->
this morning since I don't need a prescription.
Meaning, I take 10 units of Humalog at breakfast and supper, will I take 10
units of Regular? I know it may vary slightly from person to person, but
I'm just looking for a ballpark. I just don't want to pass out from a low
or go into DKA.
