what to expect?
Jenny,
You are the one who is investigating getting a pump, aren’t you? I would go
in prepared with your BG records so he/she can see you are diligent about
testing. I would relax, though. I detect a bit of fear in your Q. Remember,
the endo should be a specialist in DM, therefore, wants to work WITH you.
List your Q’s on a sheet and don’t leave without answers. It was suggested
at a support group meeting I went to last week, that if the dr. is a little
pressed for time, hand him/her the list and expect the answers then.
Let us know the results.

Jenny
That’s a good question. I would like to know the answer to that also as I
have my first appointment May 25.
Let me tell you more about myself.
I am 34 years old. I have had type 2 diabetes for about 2 1/2 years now. I
started off taking the diabetes pills, but when I got pregnant this past Oct.
the ob changed it to insulin. Needless to say, I lost the baby in Dec, but I
chose to stay on the insulin to protect the next baby as we had planned to
try to conceive again. We started trying to conceive last month. Right now
I am waiting to see if we succeeded this month.
I have been married to my husband Jerome since 6/18/94. I also had another
m/c 5/18/97. I don’t know if you wanna hear about the m/cs but i have to
mention those to tell about myself.
Well I don’t know what else to tell you all. I guess i’ll go for now.
Love
Loretta

Jenny, I have mainly been to. My reg. doc. does not want to deal with
me and my diabetes. I have had 2 different endos. and they are
different. My first would never talk to me only my husband as if I never
exsisted. He was very strict and if I didnot do exactly want he wanted
he did not want to treat me. He was always on me about weight and diet.
He was good because he checked everything…test after test. I felt like
they had a book on me. I saw he every 3 months and would go through all
the tests. I had bone tests, urine 24 hour tests, liver tests,
chorlesterol tests and tests that I really didn’t understand. My second
endo does the same test but talks to me and does not rush me. My first
allowed 20 minutes at the most and my second has taken an hour if
necessary. Endos are important because they are aware of more of the
complications. My second one always checks my feet, heart, etc. He asks
questions and listens. If you do not feel comfortable with your new one
switch until you feel like you have a good communication . I turn in my
numbers once a week and the doc. calls me back if I need to change things
or if I am ok. It is a whole different feeling. Also I would think that
he would want all your old records and have some tests done before you go
in. That way he has something to go over before he meets you and your
needs. Becki
