<< What makes me mad is when we get invited to barbeques and they
don't have the decency to cater for people specially invited.
This really gets to me to because if they are going to specially invite you
they should at least bring some stuff that you can have.

<< When I was a teen ager we all met at a local soda place called Woolens. I
always had to get water while everyone else was drinking cherry cokes.
It makes me wanna get a hankie :(. That's terrible. It's not fair.

And, meanwhile, back to the *I didn't have any friends* issue: My mom and
dau (girl child) were really disgusted with me for calling attention to
myself and/or for hurting the waitress's feelings by ordering a
non-compliant-to-their-standards item. Forget the possibility of doing
damage to ME - so what??? I'm outspoken enough that if I'm paying for a
meal, I should get it the way I want it. So there!

Maybe you should use your voice when you are invited and ask them what
they are having for the main entree. Then you can remind them that you
are diabetic and could you bring something or could they please not put
the dressing on the salad for you or not bread all the chicken. It has
worked for me. Also being blind it helps me know what I am up against
when I go somewhere if I know what they are serving I can ask the caterer
to cut it for me before it comes to the table so that i do not make a
mess. I have asked in resturants to have my salad put in a bigger bowl
so I will not spill. You may just have to be a little more assurtive
and speak for yourself. A lot of people just do not understand what we
need and it is our job to educate them and not get upset. As some say
you can get more things with honey than vinegar. How ironic...love Becki

a lot of times in resturants I wll order lemon water and put an equal in
it. I do not trust some of the soft drinks. Have been fooled a couple of
times and got the wrong drink. That can mess you up real good. Becki

It sure brought out my tiny violin. I didn't even get water because I
didn't have that many friends to hang out with. I lived in a town 7 mi. from
the high school and no one could/would take me home. I was very much a
loner - after all, I was *different.* The only sweetener I had was saccharin
tablets. ewwwww. I was soooo thirsty before dx that I like water and that
was my drink.
