resturants

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Marius here in Florida I have been very lucky. If I ask to have something
changed because I am diabetic they have been very helpful. The fast food
chains have nutrition facts out for you to make the decsion as to what
you want to eat. I know certain places we do not eat at because it is
hard to find something that I can order alacarte. I am a little afraid
of mexican resturants because they have a lot of carbos on their menus
esp. the combination meals…lots of rice so it looks like you are
getting a lot for your money. Rice really bothers me. I really can not
complain. I have been known to take my own salad dressing at certain
places because the dressing has done me in before. You can always take
the bull by the horns==order what you like and then eat only what you can
afford to eat. Share the rest of the meal with Wendy or Merredy. Just
an idea. Becki

restaurants

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

No, we don’t have many restaurants that cater to diabetics - then they’d
have to consider celiac sufferers, hypertensives, etc., etc. It wouldn’t be
conducive. However, we have a lot of all-you-can-eat buffets. There are
fresh salad makings and lots to choose from. Some have dietetic Jell-O and
some sugar-free pies and puddings. They are all one price and there is no
limit to what you take but they want you to eat it all and you are not
allowed to take any home. Most all serve sugar-free soda pops and/or iced
tea.

hats

I think not. I had *flat hair* when I was 16 and they traded all the
required hats around and gave me the biggest one at Dog ‘N Suds. Still too
small.

forgetting

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Gail,
I forgot my breakfast bolus yesterday. Luckily the Humalog can quickly bring
it down. Test immediately and correct as necessary. On that other list they
are using methods to *modify behavior* in children who forget. I think we
get so busy and it just slips our minds. Sat night at that dinner I
conducted we had salads and I told the waitress to take the orders at 6:15.
She came around and collected salad plates and I reminded her we needed to
have our meals. She then proceded to take the 31 orders and I asked her to
bring them right away. She said she just turned them in and they had to be
cooked!!!!!!!!!! 8^( I didn’t know when the meals would come so didn’t
want to bolus too early. Well, so that I wouldn’t get caught up in things
and forget to bolus because I also had cherry pie, I laid Bluda Sue on the
table so in case I got up it would flop to the floor and remind me.
Another person said, you pray before you eat, bolus before you eat. Maybe
you need to have a plan to remind you. I know it has been almost 17 years

Rabbit

Friday, August 17th, 2007

I think the confusion comes in towards the end where the vulture(s) turns
into the rabbits in Babs’ story. Maybe it can be clarified.
